Study for Probationary Ministers

The ‘average’ Methodist probationer – deacon or minister doesn’t exist,
but if they did, they are likely to be in their late 30s or early 40s
and be on their second ‘career’. They are normally a graduate and have
returned to education after quite a few years away. The training years
have generally been a good experience and there is a desire to keep up
with reading and current thinking, a desire that is facilitated by
probationer’s studies.

Don't Stop Studying

Four Local Preachers Tell Their Story.

Local Preachers come in all shapes and sizes and educational
backgrounds. Some finish their theological study when accredited,
others are keen to develop further. One opportunity is at Cliff College
where accredited local preachers are able to enrol for postgraduate
certificate courses that can lead to an MA in three years of part-time
study. Three Local Preachers tell their story of further study ....
A Pioneering Course for Pioneering Ministry

How do you help shape the future ‘pioneers’ of the church? How about
this for a recipe: (1) Gather together a bunch of Christians from all
over the nation, to a relatively remote community in Derbyshire, for a
week of intensive study-fellowship, maintained by on-line groups; (2)
Gently fold into this mixture a rich dose of sharing, prayer and
praise, all centred on the real presence of God, Father, Son and Holy
Spirit; (3) Catalyse with some provocative lectures, seminars and
discussion groups aimed at stretching hearts, minds, and lives into
God’s own future for the church; and, then, (4) ‘Buckle your seatbelt
Dorothy, because Kansas is going bye-bye’!
Local Preachers and Lay Readers

Local preachers, lay readers and other lay church leaders are encouraged to think about pursuing a postgraduate certificate, diploma or even Masters Degree in one of our mission-oriented programmes at Cliff College. Through a system for the Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL), it is now possible for us to recognise the learning gained through church-based training courses and practical experience as equivalent to qualifications gained through traditionally accepted formal courses in higher education.
